Whitaker Woods is the Town of Conway's recreational area located in the northern end of North Conway Village. This 180-acre pine forest is crisscrossed by a 45 kilometer network of trails groomed and maintained by the Mt. Washington Valley Ski Touring Foundation for winter recreation.

Originally a farm of 300 acres of pasture and forest dating back to 1830, the Town of Conway's first purchase of 100 acres was from lifelong resident Charles W. "Chubby" Whitaker. The deed for this first purchase from "Chubby" stated that the land be "used for public recreation purposes and shall be maintained forever in a wild and natural state..."

The network of trails through the woods were originally logging roads that have been widened and reconfigured to create a park-like woodland for year round enjoyment by walkers, hikers, joggers, cross country skiers, snowshoers and horseback riders.

Fundraising Event:
This Winter Fun TRI event is a fundraiser for the Mt. Washington Valley Ski Touring Foundation , a nonprofit (501)(C)(3) organization. Monies raised from this event will help support free cross country skiing for all elementary, junior and senior high students of SAU #9 and SAU # 13 in the towns of Jackson, Bartlett, Conway, Tamworth, Madison, Freedom and Albany, and grooming of trails used by Eastern Slope Ski Club's after-school-program and the Kennett High School XC Ski Team.

Location:
The Whitaker Woods Meeting House is located at 2829 White Mountain Highway, just north of the River Road street light at the northern end of North Conway village before the railroad crossing. Additional parking will be available at John Fuller School which borders the Whitaker Woods trails.
